Age And Performance: A Direct Relation

Neymar just turned 33 on the 5th of Feb, his age is still quite impressive as compared to players who had comparison debates with Neymar during his prime. But Neymar’s performances are not up to the mark. The latest ‘best version’ was seen during his time at PSG and in the 2022 World Cup. His performance declined afterward, and his decision to leave Barcelona is one of his biggest regrets. Neymar spent 1.5 years in Saudi with Al Hilal but only played a few games as he was sidelined with an ACL injury.

I don’t see Neymar fitting into this young Barcelona team, his daily lifestyle and decisions could directly affect the youngsters at Barcelona. His discipline is another issue a manager like Flick wouldn’t tolerate. If Neymar joins the club he will have to fight for his place with our youngsters, as his current level is quite below what is needed at the club.

Injury Prone: Neymar’s injury history.

Injury is one of the major factors that stopped Neymar from reaching his full potential. He has been unlucky with injuries and has been sidelined for a lot of matches. Neymar is a player with flair and defenders do not entertain that, he has been the target of defenders who continue to play aggressively with players like Neymar. Neymar has missed over 250 games in his career due to injuries. His latest major injury was with Al Hilal, where the Brazilian was sidelined for 48 games after suffering an ACL injury.

In modern-day football, the number of games has also increased and Neymar cannot keep up with the modern level and might suffer with fitness.

Distractions off the field: How it affected Neymar?

At Barcelona Neymar used to love football, his bonding with Messi and Suarez showcased his affection and passion for the game. As he decided to leave Barcelona because of personal interests his love for football was seen to weaken. Neymar’s birthday parties have been distractions for his coaches. There have been many complaints about how Neymar has missed training and crucial games due to him being at parties. Another distraction is Neymar’s commercial opportunities and playing PlayStation until late.

This has also affected young players who have a good relationship with Neymar. This will not be good for the young Barcelona squad.
