A Game of Mixed Emotions!

Barcelona drew against Atletico Madrid at home in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg. The game ended in a dramatic 4-4 draw, despite Barcelona being the dominant side again Atletico made sure to give a tough fight. This game had mixed emotions.

The Good Part

The good part we can take from this game is Barcelona’s mentality. We have never seen Barcelona outperform a team so well after going down early. For years we have witnessed that when Barcelona concede early goals, either the game ends in favour of our opponents or Barcelona take 80-90 minutes to respond.

But this year, under Flick we have seen a different side where the players keep their heads up and look for response as soon as possible. Another example was the away game against Benfica, where Barcelona turned the game around pretty well.

The Worrying Bit

The worrying bit from this game was Barcelona’s defence and lack of control towards the end. Barcelona made a perfect comeback and were leading 4-2 with comfortable control of the game. Barcelona collapsed the 2-goal lead in just 9 minutes.

Barcelona’s poor defence at the end is the problem, they conceded poor goals against Atletico in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Benfica in the UCL. Barcelona are having a great season and if they want to be on the winning end, they should look to close the games where they have control in any way possible.
