Barcelona dropped crucial points in their last La Liga game against Getafe. With this being done, Barcelona are 7 points behind leaders Real Madrid.
Start the season.
Barcelona started the season with an impeccable start, setting the tone as serious contenders domestically. Barcelona had a dream start like this after years and was consistent throughout. The performances on the pitch completely justified the results of the matches. The fans were quite excited and overhyped for the rest of the season.
Barcelona started the league campaign with a great mentality, winning games against Valencia, Rayo, Bilbao, and Valladolid, showcasing the quality overall in the squad.
September started with a good win against Girona and Barcelona continued their league streak with wins over Villarreal and Getafe. The club suffered a setback due to Ter Stegen’s injury against Villareal. But Iñaki Peña covered the spot well. Barcelona ended the month with a loss to Osasuna, ending their La Liga winning streak.
Where did things go wrong?
In October Barcelona met themselves with one of the most challenging weeks of the season, facing Sevilla, Real Madrid, and Bayern one after the other. Barcelona was successful in all 3 games, marking them as unstoppable.
November and December were the months that changed the whole course of the La Liga season. These months were ones to forget for Barcelona fans. While November started on a positive note with a win against Espanyol in the Catalan derby, it soon turned into the worst period of the season.
Barcelona only managed to win one La Liga game out of seven, squandering a nine-point lead over Real Madrid to end the year in third place. This period had Barcelona fans thinking, after three consecutive home defeats to Las Palmas, Leganes, and Atletico Madrid. Barcelona fans thought they would start the year 2025 on a positive note in the league, but despite Barcelona’s blistering performances in the Super Cup and Copa Del Rey Barcelona once again dropped points in La Liga.
What’s Next in La Liga
Barcelona dropped crucial points against easy opponents and widened the gap from the top spot further. The league should’ve been our priority but it seems far away now. In my opinion, Barcelona should only focus on themselves and look to win every game they go into. Just a few days ago, Barcelona put on a show against Madrid and Betis with a standout performance and the next day they suffer against relegation sides. This needs to be looked upon by Flick and should be improved as soon as possible.
It’s time for the players to step up, be consistent, and perform at a high level in every game. With half of the season left, Barcelona must be back to their best. The focus should divert to the silverware, aiming for excellence in every competition the club is participating in.
