Joshua Kimmich’s contract with Bayern is set to expire in 2025. The German Club has told Joshua Kimmich to state his decision on his future by the start of January as the midfielder heads into the final months of his contract at the club.
Bayern Munich’s Stance: What do they want ?
Bayern Munich has made it clear they want to keep the German midfielder at the club. Bayern are in a hurry to secure Kimmich’s future due to continued speculation about the German’s transfer.
Kimmich is out of contract and is strongly linked to Barcelona, where he could be reunited with his former coach, Hansi Flick.
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has now told Abendzeitung that the club is eager to start talking to Kimmich about a new deal.
“Joshua certainly didn’t have it easy during the Corona period. On the other hand, Joshua, who has a high level of sporting ambition, knows which club he is in and what goals he can achieve here together with us,” he said.
“He feels at home in Munich and is a very important player in this team. He shows his class not only with us, but also in the national team. We have already said publicly that we want to start talks with him about a contract extension quickly. I would like him to continue to be one of the cornerstones of the team.”
Barcelona’s Plan: Why Kimmich though?
Barcelona is behind the German midfielder for a long period of time. The 29-year-old fits perfectly in this Barcelona setup, as right now the player in his position is Marc Casadó, who is having a great debut season.
Kimmich stands out as the ideal option. Kimmich offers a perfect balance of versatility, experience, and tactical intelligence. Following Busquets departure, Kimmich’s defensive stability and playmaking ability from the deep would fit well in Flick’s counterattacking system. With a great spell with Bayern, Kimmich can bring the leadership and winning mentality to this young Barcelona squad, nurturing their young talents.
What if operation Kimmich fails?
Marc Casadó has impressed Hansi Flick, earning a spot in Barcelona’s starting XI in his debut season, ahead of the likes of Frenkie De Jong and Eric Garcia. Despite his impressive form, Casadó’s lack of experience is evident in recent games, with fatigue playing a major role as he has been starting regularly. Many fans view him of being the potential long-term solution to Barcelona’s CDM problems, following Busquets departure.
Another youngster who has caught Flick’s attention is Marc Bernal. Despite suffering from an ACL injury at the start of the season, Bernal impressed Flick with his potential and stood out as one for the future.
If Barcelona fails to pull off operation Kimmich, these young and long-term options are also well regarded. Flick can polish both the La Masia talents and make a big name for them.
