Barca vs. La Liga: The Never-Ending Battle Over Dani Olmo’s Registration

The Barcelona vs. La Liga registration battle had supposedly died, but another showdown with La Liga has suddenly ignited. Javier Tebas, the La Liga president, has appealed to the CSD to cancel Dani Olmo’s registration. Will this battle ever end?

A Never-Ending Power Struggle?

The Dani Olmo registration saga is the latest chapter in the long-running battle between La Liga and Barcelona. Financial fair play regulations have been the primary cause of these disputes. These strict and unnecessary rules have always made La Liga take a hard stance against the Catalan club.

This latest attempt to de-register Olmo raises the question of whether La Liga is genuinely strict about its fair play rules or if it is another way of downsizing or restricting Barcelona’s progress. Because, trust me, Barcelona has found it more challenging to register Olmo this season than knocking out Javier Tebas’s favourite team, Real Madrid.

Did Barcelona Act in Bad Faith?

The harsh reality, on the other hand, is that Barcelona also handled the situation quite poorly. The clauses in Olmo’s contract were quite risky, and if the Spaniard had decided to leave during the unregistered phase, the Catalans would have been in serious trouble. Still, it is fair to hold that needless complications plague this process.

La Liga has argued that Barca failed to meet the registration deadline and still got an injunction from CSD to let Olmo play. If the club had violated FPP, would such an injunction be granted? Tebas has said:

“We have filed an appeal with the CSD. We have requested a precautionary measure to have Olmo deregistered… A precautionary measure to annul the previous precautionary measure.”

Barcelona, on the other hand, claims that it acted in accordance with the rules. This contradiction shows how rigid rules can create conflicts in football and deviate people from the beautiful sport to needless chaos.

What This Means for Barca and La Liga’s Future

Regardless of what is the result of this prolonged saga, this legal battle’s consequences will be lasting. If Tebas succeeds in cancelling Olmo’s registration, Barcelona might be massively effected and weakened in this crucial phase of the season. Olmo, in very short time, has become an integral part of the squad.

On the contrary if the CSD rules in favor of the Blaugrana, it could set a standard that clubs can challenge La Liga’s authorities over these unnecessary financial regulations. The tensions will not cease to exists, whatever the ruling of CSD is.

While culers hope that this never-ending episode comes to an end, one thing is certain. This will not be the last time we see a battle between La Liga and Barcelona.
