Barcelona demolished Dortmund 4-0 last night, and this victory was a statement for Europe. Flick’s team was once again in blistering attacking form, and his players showed fantastic synchronization. As Barca edges closer to the semis, let’s dissect whether this team is Europe’s new apex predator.
The Most Lethal Trio After MSN: “Raphinha, Lewandowski, Yamal”
Barcelona’s score sheet was once again filled by the Catalan front three. They orchestrated those chances and also finished them. Raphinha has 12 goals in a single UCL campaign, Lewandowski has hit 40 goals in the season, and Yamal has just 3 G/A less than Vini Jr.’s Balon d’Or campaign (with 2 months to go). Let that sink in!
Credit must be given to Flick for recreating an almost similar front three as the legendary MSN. The nostalgia is hitting all culers hard, and the much-awaited treble could finally become a realization this coming summer.
Lewandowski’s Elite MVP Performance Against his Former Club
Barcelona’s 36-year-old Polish center forward scored two goals yesterday, but sent one message. The big Pole isnt done yet. The narrative of his decline was a common talk last year as he neared an exit under Xavi. However, Lewandowski has shown his true caliber this season under Flick, and with yesterday’s brilliant brace, now stands at 40 goals this season!
Lewandowski was once again a predator in the box. His first goal was a real poacher’s goal, as he headed Raphinha’s aerial assist in the far right corner from inches infront of the goal. The second one showcased his amazing movement, positioning and placement. The brace against Dortmund has put Barca in a really strong position as Barca head into the second leg next week.
Lamine Yamal’s Sensational Performance & Raphinha’s Big Game Form
How good young Yamal is! He crafted Barcelona’s second goal, scored the fourth, consistently threatened defenders in the box, and won the hearts of culers with his willing substitution for Ansu Fati. The 17-year-old is God’s blessing to Barcelona, and this gift must be protected and cherished.
Raphinha, who had not been himself since his return from international duty, also showcased a brilliant performance. The Brazilian has again shown that he is Barca’s number-one guy for big UCL games. He was again in the goals and assists charts and now has 12 goals in a single UCL season.
The Unsung Heroes Yesterday
While I chant praises of Barcelona’s attack, I will not miss the unsung heroes for Barca last night. While Pedri and de Jong’s elite performances have become routine, Fermin Lopez’s special performance was another treat for Barca fans. His impressive work rate won possession multiple times for the Catalans, and he also brilliantly assisted Lewandowski.
The Barca defenders were also special against Dortmund. The Araujo double block was tremendous, and so were Inigo Martinez’s long balls and passing. Cubarsi was unlucky not to have scored and put on another great shift against Dortmund’s striker Serhou Guirassy, who was a big threat.
