Barcelona and Their Business Messup!

Barcelona have been poor financially in recent years, one of the main reasons for this is their poor dealing capability. This is a following example of how Barcelona thought they made money out of Nico Gonzalez’s transfer to Manchester City and what could’ve happened to make it more successful.

Nico Gonzalez Transfer to Manchester City

Nico was sold to FC Porto at the age of 21, he was considered one of the best talents of La Masia at that time and was part of Barcelona’s “dark horses” era. Nico was sold for a combined fee of just 8.5 million Euros with a 40% sell-on clause. Credits: Original Barca Content FB

This seems one of the finest sales in Barcelona’s history because of its recent financial status. However, later in this deal, Barcelona sold a further 20% of that sell-on clause. The sell-on clause condition reduced Barcelona’s future earnings from Nico’s transfer.

In simple terms, Instead of owning a 40% stake, they now hold just 20%, as the other 20% was sold off.

Nico Paz’ Transfer to Como

Nico Paz was one of the most promising prospects of Real Madrid’s academy, he has 10 G/A in 23 games in Serie A for Como. The youngster couldn’t find his place in the first-team squad, so he decided to leave. Real Madrid sold the 20-year-old in 2024 to Como for a fee of 6 million Euros. Nico Paz is already worth 20 million Euros according to the Transfer market, after just half a season at Como.

Why is this Deal Better?

Real Madrid knows how to do business with even minor deals, they have three buy-back clauses in Nico Paz’s contract. The deal is as follows, 2025: 8 million Euros, 2026: 9 million Euros, and 2027: 10 million Euros. In addition to this, they have a 50% sell-on clause included. Credits: Original Barca Content FB

This deal was a pure checkmate with 0 risks involved. This shows why Real Madrid has those dollars to spend each season on the transfer market to get the Galactio. If we obtain such knowledge, we can have a blend of La Masia talent and some huge names in the squad, we can dominate world football.
