A successful season is ending for Hansi Flick and Barça after securing a soon-to-be domestic treble. Hansi Flick has brought out the very best in his players this season, with most of them having their best season yet at FC Barcelona. Raphinha transformed into a Ballon d’Or contender, Lamine Yamal reached new heights, and Pedri became the general of the team after avoiding injuries. However, there are areas in Barça’s game that need improvement. Some positions need more squad depth, particularly a new striker, considering Robert Lewandowski’s age.
A striker to succeed Robert Lewandowski’s throne
Robert Lewandowski is an ageing striker, 37 years old right now. The Posh striker will eventually have to be replaced, and Barcelona are planning to bring in a world-class striker to fill in his shoes. Several names have appeared as candidates, including Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, Moise Kean, and Viktor Gyokeres.
Alexander Isak
The Swedish striker, Alexander Isak, is the most desirable among the options available. He has a tall, athletic body to outmuscle defenders with a hunger for goals. Isak is good on the ball, which is a must-have ability to be Barcelona’s number 9. He is good with his feet and can dribble past defenders to score. Isak has scored 27 goals for Newcastle United this season and is only behind Salah and above Haaland in the Premier League top scorer race. The only downside of Isak is his price tag, as Newcastle want over a €100m for the striker, which makes it an expensive spend if Barcelona are interested.
Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko has scored 21 goals for RB Leipzig this season and is on the radar of many big clubs around Europe. The Slovenian striker has been in top form with promising performances throughout the season. Sesko might be a more affordable option for Barcelona, but with a compromise on quality.
Moise Kean
Moise Kean has 23 goals this season for Italian side Fiorentina. He has quick feet with good link-up play. A fast striker who has the potential to play on the wings as well. Moise has quick feet to turn away from defenders and get a shot away from the most awkward angles. The Italian striker knows how to produce consistent shots at goal, which makes him a good striker for Flick’s Barça, in my opinion.
Viktor Gyokeres
Viktor Gyokeres has been an absolute goal machine for Sporting CP this season. The Swedish striker has 52 goals this season so far. A tall, athletic striker who has a hunger for goals. He can be a powerful addition to Flick’s squad, considering the German manager’s emphasis on scoring a lot of goals.
In my opinion, Alexander Isak remains the best option to replace Robert Lewandowski. However, if funds are not enough for his signing, Viktor Gyokeres is a good option, considering the Swedish striker’s numbers this season. Hansi Flick will want a number 9 that can score goals consistently, and Gyokeres has a good resume to be an ideal candidate.
