Hansi Flick Spoilt This Atletico Record!

The Record

Atletico Madrid had never blown a 2-0 lead or a 2-goal advantage since Diego Simeone took over Atletico as their head coach. The record for 17 years and more than 660 matches since they blew a 2-goal advantage. This happened when Spanish side Villareal were 2 goals down but turned the deficit to a 3-4 win in 2007, almost 18 years ago.

This record was quite impressive as no team knew how to break Atletico Madrid’s compact defensive block. Whenever Atletico lead in a game, Diego Simeone plays dark arts. He opts for a tight and compact defensive block so they do not concede any goal.

But this didn’t work under Hansi Flick twice. Once Barcelona came back from 2-0 to 3-2 in the Copa del Rey this season. Second time Barcelona blew Atletico’s 2-0 lead in just 20 minutes. THE HANSI FLICK EFFECT.
