There are reports from Goal.com, these reports indicate Lionel Messi’s close friend stated that the Inter Miami star has decided to return to Barcelona when his contract with the MLS club ends.
Many Players Returned from MLS
Playing in Europe after MLS is not a new fashion. Many think that MLS is the last destination of many established footballers who want to end their careers peacefully. Many footballing names made their return to Europe while having a contract with their MLS clubs. Basically, MLS and European Leagues have different off-seasons, considering that many players went to play in Europe on a loan deal.
David Beckham is an example who left LA Galaxy to play in AC Milan on loan, he was loaned out during the MLS off-season. Landon Donovan, one of the best American players moved away on loan during the off-season. His first off-season loan was to Bayern Munich in 2009, he made another loan move in 2010 for the Toffees and the last move to Everton in 2011. Robbie Keane also signed for Aston Villa on loan in 2012, a year after saying goodbye to the English Premier League. Clint Dempsey also made this move and spent time in Europe during the MLS off-season.
A Never Ending Love Story
David Beckham made a return move to his ex-club AC Milan from LA Galaxy, another legend who returned to his beloved club was Thierry Henry. Beckham’s return was quite fashionable but Henry’s homecoming was a proper passion. Five years after leaving Arsenal, Henry signed for Barcelona. Later he made a move to MLS. Henry made a temporary return to Arsenal in 2012. He set an example of a proper homecoming.
Messi has unfinished business at Barcelona, the Legend himself expresses his love for the club. He himself stated ‘My place is there’, the tragic release of Messi was heartbreaking for every Barcelona fan.
Messi’s Family friend Yanina Latorre fanned the flames, telling La Nacion: “He [Messi] told me that when he finishes here [in Miami], where he is happy, he will return to Barcelona.” When pressed on the possibility of staying longer in Miami, Messi reportedly shut it down, saying: “No, my place is there.” Credits: euroweeklynews.com
