Flick’s Approach to Integrating La Masia Players into the First Team

Since the introduction of many La Masia graduates by Xavi Hernández, Hansi Flick has continued the practice by giving Marc Bernal, Marc Casado, Gerard Martin and Hector Fort considerable game time.

Having confidence in the youth

From the first pre-season game, the German manager had immense confidence in young players; he gave Marc Bernal a starting role early in the season. After his injury, Marc Casado was trusted as the main CDM for Barca. Pau Cubarsi at the tender age of 18 is an irreplaceable centre-back in Hansi Flick’s starting 11. Lamine Yamal has progressed perfectly as Hansi Flick has protected the star boy after his injury giving him enough rest. The youngsters did not let Flick down as they put on world-class performances with great maturity and composure.

A calm and composed attitude

A manager’s personality surely rubs off on his players and Hansi Flick is well aware of this. At the touchline he is always calm and composed no matter what the situation is on the pitch. As a player if your manager panics at the sideline it makes you anxious and more vulnerable to mistakes. Hansi Flick’s young men always stay focused and confident when they see their manager with the same attitude.
