- During the match against Atletico Barca’s no.6 was seen as frustrated by Robert Lewandowski’s lack of pressing.
- He raised his arms and yelled at him, telling him to press more aggressively.
- Gavi and Lewandowski’s relationship.
Gavi was furious by his senior
According to a report by Toni Juanmarti, Gavi scolded Robert Lewandowski during the game against Atletico which they ended up losing after a later goal by Sorloth. During the 35th and 45th minutes of the game Clement Lenglet carried the ball forward several times with little to no pressure from the Polish striker, this allowed him to act as an extra midfielder making things complicated for Barca’s own midfield.
Gavi did not hold back after seeing this, raising his voice with aggressive gestures urging the striker to put more pressure on Atletico Madrid’s backline.
After the first half ended the midfielder approached Lewandowski stating his complaints for his lack of pressing however, the exchange of words lasted only 10-15 seconds. Even after the conversation Gavi seemed bothered by it and decided to discuss it with Pedri.
Lewandowski’s bad form continues
This might not be the only game recently that the No. 9 of Barcelona has been poor not only defensively but also indecisive in front of the goal, missing major chances which have cost Blaugrana crucial points in their pursuit of the league title.
Raphinha has been covering more than normal distance to run at defenses when they have the ball to make up for the lack of pressing by Lewandowski.
The relationship of a veteran with a prodigy
Gavi and Lewandowski are not known to be involved in conflict with each other, In fact, they had formed a really amazing duo before Gavi’s injury. The two were often seen in games combining with each other to create chances and score goals. A perfect example would be the Super Cup final against Real Madrid in 2023 where they created 3 goals among themselves.
Frustration takes over at times especially when your team is struggling and conversations like these should be seen as a healthy sign for teammates pushing each other to better.
