In a pre-match press conference before the league game vs Sevilla Hansi Flick revelead the progress of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen on his injury. The German coach has named Wojciech Szczęsny as his number 1 goalkeeper over the La Masia graduate Iñaki Peña. Iñaki reportedly got into a heated argument with Flick over his demotion to the bench.
What Barca misses about Ter Stegen
The German goalkeeper has been the undisputed choice between the sticks for a decade for FC Barcelona. There have been come recent periods where fans and media have questioned his spot as the starting goalkeeper but the German has been rather exceptional for the Catalan giants. Hansi Flick would start Ter Stegen over all the available keepers in my opinion. The German has probably the feet in the world when it comes to finding his teammates and breaking passes with his passes.
Should Barca move on from Ter Stegen
Despite the rather successful career Ter Stegen has had at Barca it can not be ignored that he is getting older. The German is not in his prime earlier and his performances from here are most likely to decline. Iñaki Peña can be a strong candidate to replace him in the long term or else Barca will have to find a world-class keeper to fill the shoes of Marc Andre Ter Stegen. Wojciech Szczęsny also seems likely to extend his contract for one more year.
