Hansi Flick answers important questions ahead of the clash with Benfica in Champions League round of 16.
Hansi Flick on Benfica: “This tie lasts 180 minutes. We are facing a very strong team that has done great work and comes into the game with confidence. If we want to progress, we have to be much better than Benfica.”
On the team’s chances of winning the Champions League: “I always think about the next match, and right now, that’s Benfica. It’s not good to speculate beyond that. We start at 0-0, and we have to give everything in every game because our opponents also want to beat us.”
On Starting XI for tomorrow: “I’m not going to give any hints about the lineup. Sometimes I do, but not this time… especially in the Champions League.”
On Gavi’s fitness status: “We will see if he plays. He didn’t train yesterday because he wasn’t feeling well. The medical team will assess his condition, and we will make a decision based on that.”
On Dani Olmo and Gavi: “Gavi is a player who can operate in multiple positions. He presses well and brings a strong defensive presence while also being comfortable with the ball. Olmo enjoys playing in his position. He scores goals and creates chances for the team.”
On Lewandowski‘s importance to the team: “It’s always good to have a player like Lewandowski who scores a lot of goals. But in the end, football is a team effort. If we continue playing the way we have over the last two months, we are on the right path.”
On La Masia’s influence in the first team: “One of my assistants showed me an image of CubarsĂ, CasadĂł, and Gerard MartĂn kissing the badge. It’s fantastic to see them so grateful for the education and values they received at La Masia.”
On Champions League: “There are no easy matches anymore. Every team here has earned its place and has a chance to win. Benfica won’t be easy, and we must focus on beating them by giving everything on the pitch.”
