Just before the crucial Copa del Rey semifinal vs Atletico Madrid, La Liga released an official statement that Barça’s €100M VIP seat deal, which was crucial for registering Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, is not accounted for in the club’s latest financial submissions. As a result, Barça are exceeding the FFP and don’t have the 1:1 rule, to keep Dani Olmo and Pau Victor registered.
Club president Joan Laporta was furious at this statement and said it didn’t seem like a coincidence that the statement came at such a time. When Barca were about to face Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinal, that ended in a 1-0 win for Barca. Joan Laporta: “The recent statement from La Liga is an attempt to destabilize Barcelona. We are playing a KEY match tonight and I think what they can’t achieve on the pitch, they’re trying to achieve in the offices. We will respond forcefully to La Liga.”
In the end, Javier Tebas and Co. couldn’t succeed as CSD stated in favour of FC Barcelona. Dani Olmo and Pau Victor will stay registered until the end of the season. Olmo, despite his injuries, has been a key player in Hansi Flick’s side and could be a big help in winning trophies this season.
