Left Foot, Right Foot, or Both? Decoding Lamine Yamal’s Technical Arsenal

Lamine Yamal’s story so far at Barcelona has been nothing short of sensational. However, it’s interesting to analyze the youngster’s technical arsenal and preferred foot. His left-footed wizardry, right-footed performances, and all-around intelligence? Let’s break down the 17-year-old’s loaded arsenal and uncover his preferences deeply.

Yamal’s Left-Footed Wizardry Makes him a Footballing Phenomenon

Yamal’s signature left-footed curler has proven to be a cheat code many times for Barca and Spain this season. The 17-year-old has heavily relied on his preferred left foot for goals and assists, and playing him with his main foot really is a sight to watch. He cuts inside from the right flank, making defenders scramble to defend his curling shots.

The way Yamal whips the ball with precision is just too good. He has surgical precision and knows the art of bending the ball around goalkeepers. Therefore, it’s safe to remark that Yamal utilizes his left foot as his main weapon.

Yamal’s Right Foot is Underrated

I totally disagree with the narrative that Yamal is single-footed. Here’s the paradox: His right foot is competent and clever but underutilized. Yes, he does not use it a lot, but whenever he does, he is brilliant; whenever he feints defenders with his left, his right foot threads a razor-sharp pass into the box.

But why doesn’t he shoot with right? Why the hesitation? I think It’s a psychological tic that only time will fix. Leo Messi had this too early in his career, but when we saw him use his right, it was amazing. Yamal even opts for a left-footed trivela cross instead of a simple right-footed delivery. My advice to Yamal is to trust that gem of a right foot more.

Dribbling & Vision: Yamal’s Technical Arsenal

At just 17, Yamal plays like a veteran. His brilliant dribbling skillset always looks elegant and calculated. It’s very soothing to the eye whenever he glides past defenders with lovely shifts of weights and bursts. However, what I find truly fascinating about Yamal is his amazing IQ.

As a right winger, Yamal pulls defenders out of position with his amazing diagonal runs. This makes him carve out gaps for teammates. Unlike most wingers, he is three steps ahead of defenders and links play with one-touch passing. No wonder his market value exceeds even the world’s best players just two seasons from his debut.
