Multiple news outlets have claimed on Neymar’s intention of once again attempting to return to Barcelona. The Brazilian has signed a 5 month deal with Santos FC and has made it clear to the club that he will decide his own future at the end of the season. Neymar hopes to revive his career in Europe after the boost at Santos and prove himself worthy enough to be part of Brazil’s world cup campaign in 2026.
Why Barca should consider signing Neymar
The Prince that was never crowned can return to Camp Nou for one last dance and here is why I think it can be different for Neymar this time under Hansi Flick.
Can Neymar fit in?
At the present there is another Brazilian that plays in Neymar’s position at Barca. Raphinha has been more than exceptional under Hansi Flick and is a Ballon d’Or contender along with Robert Lewandowski.
However, I think Neymar can still play as an attacking midfielder like Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez. A similar role to what he had in the world cup for Brazil. A player like him can add a lot of unpredictability to Hansi Flick’s side that can be crucial to open up tight defences. His Jogo Bonito can be the answer to oppositions that play a low-block to deny Barca chances.
A Marketing Asset
Despite his current situation, Neymar Jr is a superstar and is only second to Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of stardom. The club can market his return to Camp Nou as “a last dance” or “unfinished business” to generate a lot of revenue. His arrival would boost ticket sales and better commercial deals plus more revenue from TV-rights.
Although Neymar’s return looks like a good deal for Barca, there are several factors that will determine if this dream becomes a reality or not. Neymar will have to stay fit and play as many minutes as he can during his time at Santos. He will have to put up outstanding performances consistently in order to convince Barca his career is far from over.
