Pablo Gavi Shines Against Bilbao: Can He Sustain This Form?

The impact Gavi is finally back, as the midfielder showed the first signs of promise after his devastating ACL injury. This article will discuss his setback, inspiring comeback, performance against Bilbao, and his role in the upcoming clasico.

The Long Recovery from ACL

Gavi was indeed on top of the world before suffering the dreadful anterior cruciate ligament injury. He was sidelined in November 2023 while playing for La Roja in a Euro qualifier. The player missed out on a ton of Spanish success, including Spain’s Euro 2024 win and the Olympic Gold medal.

However, the 20-year-old midfielder has made a determined comeback. He finally returned in October during Barca’s 5-1 victory over Sevilla. The youngster was handed the captain’s armband, and big things were to be expected as he laid his first steps on the field in almost a year.

A Standout Performance Against Bilbao

A few doubts have been looming over the fans as Gavi struggled to impact games after his comeback. Barca went on a losing frenzy, and things did not end well in La Liga as the year ended. Gavi was average during these few matches, and fans seemed quite worried.

However, things looked different in this recent Barca victory over Athletic Bilbao, as Gavi proved why he is still one of the most promising young talents in world football. The midfielder commanded the midfield and displayed brilliance all across the pitch.

Gavi’s Statistics in this match

The La Masia product displayed his exhilarating work rate and great defensive discipline in this match. He completed 19 out of 21 passes i.e. 90% accuracy, which is quite remarkable. He contributed to both goals by having one goal and one assist.

He read the game amazingly well and transitioned effectively from offense to defense. Defensively, the wonder-kid won 2 tackles and was dribbled past only once. It was a complete performance by the youngster, and he was named the ‘Player of the Match’ in this semi-final.

El-Clasico on the Calendar This Week

Barca is set to face Real Madrid on January 13, as the Los Blancos won their tie against Mallorca last night. Gavi, who always loves to make headlines in a clasico, will have his eyes on this fixture.

In my opinion, Gavi should start the Clasico at all costs. The former Golden Boy winner has one goal and two assists against Los Blancos. Not only goal contributions, the midfielder brings more to the table through his extraordinary aggression, work rate, and character. It will also bring confidence to the Blaugrana as the club lost to Madrid in the same fixture last year.

Another question surrounding Gavi is whether he can carry his form and show consistency for the remainder of the season. The player has the coach and fans’ support, which will massively boost his morale. I think the type of player Gavi is, he’d be least thinking about his form and would be focused on subjugating the might of Real Madrid in the next match. Let’s go Barca!
