Pau Cubarsi was called up by Spain’s national team coach Luis de la Fuente for the Nations League Quarter final with the Netherlands. A selection that seemed unsurprising and expected considering how insanely good Cubarsi has been since his first-team debut.
Balde shockingly left out
Another name that was expected to be on Luis de la Fuente’s list is Alejandro Balde. The La Masia graduate just like Cubarsi has been one of the best in his position in Europe this season. A constant and lone threat on Barca’s left wing, Balde has been solid both offensively and defensively.
Pique Ramos Regens or just nostalgia?
Pau Cubarsi right since his debut drew comparisons with Barca’s legend Gerard Pique. His technical abilities on the ball and his game IQ have impressed the whole footballing world. The composure and calmness that Cubarsi possesses come after a lot of experience. However, the La Masia prodigy looks like he has 20 years of experience as he calmly dismantles Europe’s top attacks.
Raul Asencio is a promising talent emerging out of Real Madrid’s youth academy La Fabrica. However, the youngster is nowhere near Cubarsi’s level. Asencio is 22 years old and was a B team player at Cubarsi’s age. He is only receiving minutes from Carlo Ancelotti recently because of the injury crisis at Madrid’s defense. Pau Cubarsi on the other hand is an undisputable starter for Barca where he starts ahead of defenders like Ronald Araujo.
