An Interview along with Iker Casillas saw Gerard Piqué boldly announcing his views on the recent controversy of Real Madrid applying pressure on the Referees and La Liga after the 1-0 loss against Espanyol.
Gerard PiquĂ©: “Let’s be clear Real Madrid have been doing this for 120 years. When they lose, they talk about other things. They want people to ask other questions. Referees are what they are, and what they will always be.”
The La Masia graduate also praised his academy while taking a shot at his club’s rivals.
PiquĂ©: “There is a lot of young talent in La Liga, which, in the case of Barcelona, comes from La Masia, and in the case of Real Madrid, through a checkbook.”
The predictions for La Liga from Pique were shocking as he didn’t consider Madrid worthy to even make the top 3 of the table.
What are your predictions for La Liga?
PiquĂ©: “1st Barcelona, 2nd Atletico Madrid, 3rd Athletic Club.”
After Iker Casillas named the best match in Real Madrid’s history Pique saw it as an opportunity to take another dig at them.
What is the best match in Real Madrid’s history?
Iker Casillas: “The one against Juventus. When we won 1-0 in 1998.”
PiquĂ©: “But the goal was offside in that… yet you didn’t write a letter.”
When asked about Real Madrid’s recent statements the Los Blancos legend said they were justified but Pique had a different answer.
Iker Casillas: “I believe Real Madrid’s statement was appropriate… but I think VAR panel should include former players to help in decision making.”
PiquĂ©: “Of course, a former Madrid player. The commentators and referees are already from Madrid and now add players too.”
Gerard Pique once again proved he holds the same feelings toward arch rivals Real Madrid as Barca fans. Many Culers see him as a potential successor to Laporta’s presidency seat.
