Premier League Suitors: Ranking the Best Fits for Lamine Yamal

Lamine Yamal is definitely not leaving Barcelona anytime soon, now that he has renewed with the Catalans till 2031. But that won’t stop the rich Premier League clubs from dreaming. If a ridiculous offer ever came, which team would suit him? It’s an interesting topic, so let’s rank the best (and worst) fits for Yamal, based on his playing style, project stability, and common sense.

Manchester City: The Only Realistic Upgrade?

I think it’s a no-brainer that if Yamal ever had to leave Barca for Premier League, City is the only club that would not feel like a downgrade. Pep’s system at city is basically the Barca way, and Yamal’s intelligence, La Masia roots and technical ability would slot in perfectly. He would learn from the best while competing for every trophy.

But here’s an interesting catch: Would he even need to go to City? City have already a couple of candidates to dominate the wings for future. Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku and Grealish already dominate the flanks. Plus, Yamal is a starter for Barca. He would have to trade that for a rotational role at City, because the squad is too much stacked. Unless Pep guarantees him a central role, this mave makes little sense for Yamal.

Arsenal: A Perfect Fit… If They Can Afford Him

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal play the kind of progressive, possession-heavy football that would suit Yamal. Both Saka and Yamal on opposite wings would prove a true terror for defenders. The Premier League’s physicality might be a challenge, but Yamal’s dribbling prowess and creativity would thrive in the Gunners’ system.

Therefore, in my opinion, if Yamal had to choose a Premier League club for himself, Arsenal would be a wise choice. However, I do not think the Gunners would spend 150 million Euros or more on any transfer right now. Perhaps they have the pockets, but the gunners don’t operate that way. So, financially, this move is more of a pipe dream.

Chelsea: The Worst Possible Move

The Blues love collecting young talent. However, lately, Chelsea has become a club where careers often stall rather than thrive. Yamal would be wasted in a chaotic, managerless project with little chance of Champions League football if he were to go to Chelsea.

The pressure at Stamford Bridge these days is immense. Additionally, their recent track record with wingers (such as Murdyk and Madueke) is shaky. Even if Chelsea throws 200 million Euros at Barca, Yamal should run the other way. It would be a total mess.

Liverpool or United? One Makes Sense, The Other Doesn’t

Liverpool could work for Yamal. Arne Slot is likely to continue playing a high-pressing attacking system. Yamal’s versatile gameplay would thrive in this system. The only issue would be Mo Salah. The Egyptian King is still around and plays in the same spot as Yamal. Would Yamal start every week with Salah? Doubtful.

Manchester United? No. Just No. United is just too unstable, too much pressure. The club has no clear project, and they would only overpay Yamal to misuse him. Just see how they have handled Garnacho’s development. Yamal is better off staying put.
