A few days ago, Barcelona filed a lawsuit against La Liga regarding this case. The commercial court No. 10 rejected Barcelona’s appeal for the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor.

Previous appeals

The Spanish commercial court had already rejected Barcelona’s appeal against Olmo and Pau Víctor’s registration. Barcelona claimed that they have the right to register both, as La Liga previously refused to allow Barcelona to use more of Stegen’s salary cap, which was allocated for the registration of Wojciech Szczesny. This request was denied by La Liga and the RFEF.

Latest Appeals

Following the rejection of the first appeal, the club’s president, Joan Laporta, revealed that his team will use a legal argument that if La Liga blocks these registrations, it would violate the players’ right to work. This similar argument was stated in a similar situation when Gavi’s registration was pending.

Today the court gave the hearing regarding the second appeal, which was also a failure; the club has failed at a second hearing, meaning they must find an alternative method to resolve the issue.

What’s the issue about?

The issue that is keeping Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor’s future at risk is because of La Liga’s ruling for the salary cap. The conflict is all about the Financial Fair Play Ruling. The main aim of the Financial Fair Play rule is to make sure that football clubs do not spend more money than they earn. Barcelona needs to maintain the 1:1 rule to keep the players at the club.

Laporta’s final plan

Following the loss of both the case and the appeals filed, Barcelona’s president has shifted focus to an alternative strategy, which was always a Plan B, and now, after failing to get results from the first plan, Laporta will definitely use this to the players advantage.

As mentioned in this previous article, Barcelona will be advancing the negotiations for the VIP boxes deal; this was initially planned for the summer, but this is the right time to implement this following the situation.

Barcelona are looking to get this deal done and comply with the crucial 1:1 rule, securing the registrations of both Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, ensuring they remain integral parts of the squad. Barcelona is given the deadline of the 31st and has to get this done within 24 hours before the transfer window opens.
