An injury crisis and lack of game time
Andreas Christensen has not been able to play for FC Barcelona since August this year. He underwent surgery in November, which confirmed he will not receive any minutes from Hansi Flick this year. The Danish defender has had issues with his Achilles tendon. He had the original injury in the left foot but reports suggest he had a surgery for both feet. Christensen has only played 26 minutes in this season’s La Liga before his injury forced him to be sidelined.
Ruben Amorim Eyeing the defender
According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United is keeping a close look at the Danish defender’s situation at Barcelona. Ruben Amorim hopes to strengthen his defense going into the new year. The English club hopes to sign the centre-back if he is allowed to leave Barca in 2025 after being out of Hansi Flick’s plan for so long. This might be a possibility as the Catalan Club has had issues with registering players recently. Dani Olmo was able to register when signed for the club because of the absence of Christensen from the playing squad.
What Does Christensen Want?
The English club might not be so successful in their plans as recently the Danish player has made statements that he doesn’t want to move away from the Catalan capital. “I can only speak from the conversations I’ve had with the club, and, so far, they’ve just said to make sure I’m ready, and they’re looking forward to me being back,” he told TV Sport 2.
“Of course [I’m staying at Barcelona]. I approach it with the attitude that it will be difficult. [Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Ronald Araujo] have done incredibly well, and it’s up to me to knock them off. The ultimate goal is to come back and play as many matches as possible, but it will be difficult.”
