Robert Lewandowski has been having a career reviving season so far under Hansi Flick at Barcelona. The polish striker has netted 31 goals in 33 matches and provided 3 assists. Lewandowski is surely contending with Raphinha and Mohamed Salah for the Ballon d’Or. However, with his age pushing him more and more likely to the end of his Career Barca have a task of finding a young replacement in the next transfer market.
The ideal choice Alexander Isak
According to multiple reports Alexander Isak of Newcastle is the ideal signing in the eyes of Barca management. The swedish striker is flying under manager Eddie Howe with 19 goals and 5 assists in 29 matches for Newcastle. Isak has over performed his expected goals (xG) this season that is 14.2, an achievement that even Lewandowski doesn’t have. Isak not only has elite awareness of space and how to score goals but is also very good on the ball with 33 dribles. Hansi Flick can also utilize him in a similar role to Raphinha. The biggest hurdle in the signing of the Swedish striker seems to be the 100 million euros demand from Newcastle.
The plan B of Benjamin Sesko
In case of a scenario where Alexander Isak’s signing is not feasible, Barca might go for 21 year old RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian has 15 goals and 4 assists in 31 matches this season for Leipzig and has over performed his xG (5.47) in the Bundesliga. Sesko might not have the same numbers as the first option but his price tag will be significantly lower than that of Isak.
