While Barca has been cashing in on trophies under Hansi Flick, it’s important that the Catalans keep filling the vulnerable spots. The number nine spot, as good as it is right now, will need major reinforcement this coming season. It’s time to capitalize on the Julian Alvarez’s situation, as the Argentine’s hunger for trophies might be a big motivation for him to leave Atletico and join Barca. Let’s dissect.
Alvarez’s Trophy Agony at Atletico is a Massive Opportunity for the Catalans to Snipe
Julian Alvarez, at 25, has won every possible trophy with club and country. Even though he has been phenomenal individually at Atletico in his debut season, his trophy haul is empty this year for the first time in his career. The Argentine, once a serial winner at City and Argentina, is now playing under a crumbling Simeone project and is reportedly disappointed.
It’s time for Deco and Laporta to take advantage of this situation. Alvarez to Barca will complete Barca’s trio for the foreseeable future and give the Catalans a major win at the number nine spot. But can Barca afford his €150M release clause?
Lewandowski’s 40 Goals are Appreciable, but Let’s be Realistic
Lewandowski has once again been a machine this season and banged 40 goals at 36. He has delivered when it mattered and deserves all the praise there is. But let’s be real, not even Cristiano and Leo are eternal, and this is Lewandowski. Barca has to keep thinking of the future and Alvarez ticks all boxes of Barca’s striker profile.
He fits Flick’s system like a dream: a pressing machine with 85+ pace and agility. He is tailor-made for a high-octane system. His phenomenal shooting power, in-behind runs and tactical brilliance can prove a nightmare for defenders. His arrival to Barca, will be a fantastic upgrade of the Barca attack.
Sacrificing Gavi or Araujo for Alvarez?
Some interesting reports have been revolving on the internet, such as news claims that Barca will give away four players to sign Alvarez. Lenglet, already on loan at Alteti, is the first of the lot. The other names are Ansu Fati and Fermin Lopez, who Simeone is a huge fan of. However, there have been whispers of offloading Araujo and Gavi as well.
Alvarez is undoubtedly elite, but I cannot see Gavi in some other team. If Laporta or Deco even think of giving away La Masia talents for Galacticos, then I’d question the club’s identity of Mes que un Club. That’s not how you treat your heroes, Mr. Laporta. Therefore, giving away warrior Gavi or even Fermin and Araujo will be an absolutely horrific decision.
