The Never-Ending Saga: Dani Olmo Cannot Play Again

The Dani Olmo saga has reached new heights, where we used to see the rivalry between Barcelona and Madrid, we have to witness Barcelona against La Liga. The Spanish league filed an official appeal on Monday against the Spanish Sports Council’s (CSD) recent decision allowing Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor to play until the end of the season.

La Liga Challenges CSD Ruling

The Spanish Sports Council (CSD) issued a ruling on 3rd April declaring the cancellation of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor’s registrations “null and void.” This was against the players who were smartly registered temporarily in place of Andreas Christensen who suffered an injury. La Liga believes this is against the regulations.

La Liga has taken serious action filing an appeal and requesting precautionary measures to prevent Olmo and Víctor from continuing to play.

The VIP Box Cash: Where does it go?

At the start of the season, FC Barcelona registered Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor temporarily in place of Andreas Christensen who suffered an injury. Their registration was already set to expire on December 31, 2024. Barcelona announced a deal in January involving the sale of VIP boxes at the under-renovation Camp Nou stadium to Middle Eastern investors. The deal was valued to be around €100 million over 20 years, this was to strengthen the club’s finances for years to come.

La Liga is in disagreement about the legitimacy of the VIP box revenue. La Liga claims that no funds from this deal have been noticed in Barcelona’s account.

What’s Next?

As this problem has started again, La Liga’s decision could result in their suspension once more. For now, Barcelona have confidence that the CSD decision will hold. But with La Liga’s pressure, this saga is far from ending.
