A report by Sport says Joao Cancelo wants to make a return to FC Barcelona and is in contact with the dressing room while playing for Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia. He is ready to do whatever it takes to be a Barca player again.
Although he is a key player for his current club Al Hilal, the full-back treasures his time in the Blaugrana shirt and wants to write another and better chapter of his time at the Catalan club.
How it all begin
Arrived on loan from Manchester City in 2023, Joao Cancelo was a breath of fresh air for Barca after struggling with their full-back crisis. Joao Cancelo scored 4 goals and assisted 5 times in his time at Barca. He was defensively weak but helped Xavi Hernandez’s side a lot when attacking from the flanks.
A Bitter Farewell
The Portuguese had a run of inconsistent performances towards the end of the season which created doubts among the Barca management and the sporting director Deco. Nonetheless, the club’s poor financial situation and Manchester City’s refusal to extend the loan saw him leave on a transfer to Saudi club Al Hilal for 20 million euros.
Barca is looking for other options
Joao Cancelo’s wish to return to the Blaugrana seems unlikely as the club is seeking a young and promising full-back to give some time off for rest for Jules Kounde who has played an unhealthy amount of minutes for the Catalan Giants. However, the possibility still remains and we might see his reunion with his former teammates if Hansi Flick decides to put his trust in him. Joao Cancelo has a market value 18 million euros and with the winter transfer Barca will have to make crucial but also economic signings, so the Portuguese might be returning for a second spell.
