This Colombian Sensation Could Be Lewandowski’s Heir

Jhon Duran, a 21-year-old Colombian striker, has been very promising for Aston Villa this season. He has been in hot form, scoring for Villa in all competitions, and now he is rumored to be Barca’s next big signing. With his explosive talent, could he be the ideal successor to Robert Lewandowski? Let’s discuss the pros and cons of this potential move.

Subscribe to our YT channel, our new Youtube short on “Jhon Duran” just released:

The Lewandowski Successor?

Barca has been scouting for a Lewandowski heir for quite some time now. Should this transfer occur, Duran would definitely face the challenge of succeeding one of football’s most accomplished strikers, Robert Lewandowski. However, I believe that Duran’s profile could work out for Barca. He is very young, at 21, and has shown his ability to adapt and perform in a high-pressure league like the Premier League.

The Colombian is physically sturdy, quick off his feet, and relatively smart. He can score from counterattacks and exploit spaces, which could work out for creative players like Pedri and Olmo. The youngster also has a lethal left foot and can score from outside the box, something we haven’t seen many Barca players do lately.

A Tactical Analysis of Jhon Duran

There is no doubt that the Colombian possesses a unique combination of skills. He is lightning-quick, which helps him create space instantly. He is 6’1″ and has a great jump, making him aerially strong. Barca has always relied on strong number 9s who help in build-up play; this is also a role where Jhon can excel.

Flick’s high-pressing system would greatly benefit from Jhon’s work ethic. Another youngster in the front three would add energy, extra pace, and charisma to Barca’s attacking trio.

What Jhon Could Improve?

Despite his good performance this season, Duran has missed 7 big chances and failed to provide any assists. Although he has won most of these ground and aerial duels, Jhon could also improve his dribbling, as his successful dribbles are only 25%. He also has a knack for cards, as the Colombian has received 3 yellow and 1 red card already this season. These are a few areas in which Jhon Duran might need to improve.

Talented But Expensive: Is Duran worth it?

Jhon’s extraordinary potential is undeniable, but Aston Villa has tagged him as surprisingly expensive. Villa is unlikely to relinquish its prized asset and has demanded around €60-70 million. His long contract with Villa ends in 2028, and his valuation could increase in the coming years. However, according to Transfermarkt, the Colombian is valued at €40 million.

Interestingly, for a similar fee, Barca could get Victor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker is totally a better option and has been delivering loads of goals at Sporting Cp. Therefore, Aston Villa’s demands are quite high, and such a price tag would definitely not comply with the current Barca situation.

Barca are back to the 1:1 rule and look for options to strengthen the squad. Jhon Duran looks promising but is quite pricey. If the Blaugrana negotiate a fair price for Jhon, its great. Otherwise Barca could look for better options. What do you guys think?
