The iconic Camp Nou still remains under construction despite earlier reports by FC Barcelona that they will return for their 125th anniversary. That could not happen as some crucial safety measures were not completed. However, problems did not stop there for the Catalan giants as reports came out suggesting their current home Estadi De Montjuic might have other reservations on some future UCL games. Barcelona was renting it from the city council.
Possible alternatives to host home games
The Barca management might have to look elsewhere to borrow a stadium and there have been reports of some shocking options being considered.
A cry of help to the bitter rivals
RCD Espanyol’s stadium RCDE is one of the options with a capacity of 40,000 seats. Located in the same city as FC Barcelona it can be easier to travel to. Although the fans might not be too happy to visit a rival stadium to watch their home games.
Sevilla’s RamĂłn SĂĄnchez PizjuĂĄn
Laliga Giants currently sitting in the middle of the table might be able to assist with their stadium. The facility can host 42,000 spectators.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend
Atletico Madrid’s stadium The Metropolitano is also a strong contender as it can host around 70,000 spectators. Although travelling to Madrid for every home game might not just be costly but also not the best image for a club with such a rich Catalan history.
Enrique Cerezo (Atletico president) when questioned about this said: “We always cooperate with all clubs⊔
Will you negotiate with them?
Cerezo: “There is nothing to negotiate. We will see what happens.”
Although such bitter reports are circulating in the media, there are also reports of FC Barcelona denying any such events and assuring all UCL games will be played at the Estadi de Montjuic until Spotify Camp Nou is ready for the homecoming.
