When the 2024-2025 season kicked off, even die-hard Culers, including me, weren’t sure what to expect. I made up my mind that this is another rebuilding season. A new manager, a few signings, and new beginnings. I thought it would be a slow start. Barcelona just parted ways with their beloved manager Xavi Hernandez. The club was still facing financial uncertainty and appointed Hansi Flick, a manager with a brilliant resume but new to the pressure cooker of La Liga and Camp Nou expectations.
Barca fans were hoping for a rebuilding season filled with passionate performances and glimpses of the club’s glorious DNA. What have Barca fans got instead? A team that not only Spanish teams but the whole of Europe got terrified of. We got a team who found greatness, rewriting the narrative and silencing the critics.
The Domestic Treble
Let’s get straight to the point. Barcelona lifted the domestic treble — La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España, in a season where few considered them favorites. Real Madrid was gaining the hype after signing big names like Mbappe and warned everyone to get ready. Even pundits believed that no team could stop the Madrid giants after a successful 2023-2024. Madrid fans used to say “Barcelona doesn’t need to get ready to face Madrid, the world needs to get ready”
But Barcelona under Flick’s leadership, showed cohesion, willpower, and determination to win everything. Flick integrated young guns like Lamine Yamal, Cubarsi, and Pedri with veterans like Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong.
Statement Wins
Hansi Flick’s side made history with some major wins this season. For years, Bayern traumatized Barcelona after their infamous 8-2 win in 2020. To add salt to the wounds, they knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League in 2022. These memories still haunted Barca fans. But this time, it was personal. Barcelona tore through Bayern’s defense with Raphinha’s astonishing hat-rick and Lamine Yamal’s impressive vision. This wasn’t revenge, it was redemption.
Then came El Classico. Not once, not twice but four times Barcelona got the upper hand.
Firstly Barcelona destroyed Real Madrid 4-0 in their home, despite everyone counting Madrid as favorites on paper. But Barcelona showed them their place. The second was a 5-2 win in the Supercopa de España final, where Lamine Yamal and Raphinha dictated the show. The third win was in the Copa del Rey final, where Kounde scored the last-minute winner in extra-time. Lastly in the second La Liga fixture, Barcelona won 4-3.
Barcelona are Back
The biggest reward of this season wasn’t the treble, it was the return of Barcelona’s forgotten identity. It was a return of fear that European teams had when they heard the name Barcelona. For years, the club was on a strayed path. Now Barcelona’s philosophy felt alive again, and La Masia’s true colors were seen.
Yes, the treble will be remembered for seasons. But what makes this even special is, the way we achieved it. Against financial strains, doubters, and critics Barcelona stayed true to their principles. This was a season of redemption and there is no going back from this.
