Word is going around of Ronald Arajuo‘s potential move to Juventus. With each passing day, the fans are getting more and more convinced of the Urugyuan leaving the club. However, in the final of Super Copa de Espana Inigo Martinez suffered an injury. Reports came out confirming the Spanish centre-back will be out of action for 5 weeks.
A tactical reason
Hansi Flick’s offside trap has worked successfully for most of the season. However, teams in La Liga have started to find loopholes in this tactic. Deep runs from midfielders have caught Barcelona off guard time and time again. Inigo Martinez is an extremely experienced and disciplined centre-back, but he has one weakness. When Barcelona is facing a counterattack by a pacy attacker, he does not have enough speed to track back in time to put a stop to the attack.
Squad depth
In all the successful teams that FC Barcelona has had in the previous decades, there is one factor that was consistent for all. All of them had a huge quality of squad depth. More or the same quality of players were sitting on the bench ready to come on whenever the manager needed them. This way the team could keep on playing without sacrificing quality when a key player was injured. Araujo can now hope to regain his starting position after Inigo Martinez has been sidelined and prove to Hansi Flick he deserves to keep the position.
